Positioning & Pile Driving Work

One of the most crucial tasks in the construction process is positioning the foundation and column axes. Proper alignment ensures that the structure conforms accurately to the design drawings, standardizing all elements along the reference axes. Given the importance of these factors, understanding the methods for determining foundation and column axes during construction is essential.

Precise pile positioning ensures correct pile driving, minimizing errors during foundation construction. Any misalignment of piles not only affects the aesthetic quality of the foundation but, more importantly, reduces its load-bearing capacity if the piles are not correctly placed under the columns. Let’s explore this process with Cát Mộc Construction:

Site Preparation & Pile Positioning

  • Survey the site and inspect the soil conditions.
  • Prepare the construction site by clearing and leveling obstacles.
  • Determine the pile driving positions.

  • Transport machinery and reinforced concrete piles to the site.
  • Ensure the quality of reinforced concrete piles.
  • Inspect pile driving equipment.

  • Arrange piles into groups outside the pile-driving area, ensuring transportation paths are flat and unobstructed.
  • Mark the piles.
  • Conduct test pile driving to assess pile quality and required depth.
  • Remove any piles that do not meet quality standards.

Pile Driving Process

Step 1: Using a crane, position the reinforced concrete pile into the pile-driving frame, ensuring it is perfectly vertical. Secure the top of the pile to the guiding frame of the pile-driving machine. During the initial phase, apply gentle and steady pressure to maintain a controlled movement speed of no more than 1 cm/s. If the pile starts to tilt, stop and adjust accordingly.

Step 2: Drive the pile to the required depth according to the design specifications. When adding the second pile segment, ensure its axis aligns precisely with both the jack’s axis and the first pile’s axis. Proceed with welding the pile joint and inspecting the weld quality.

After inserting the second pile, check its vertical alignment before resuming the pile-driving process. At this stage, maintain a steady movement speed of no more than 2 cm/s. Since reinforced concrete piles consist of multiple segments, each segment must be securely connected before continuing. Raise the pile-driving frame, position the next segment, and continue driving.

Step 3: Once the first pile is fully driven, move the pile-driving frame to the next position and repeat the process. During the pile-driving of the first foundation section, use a crane to position the second pile-driving rig at the next foundation hole.

Pile driving is highly susceptible to misalignment due to load movement, so having an experienced engineer supervise and guide the process is essential to ensure technical precision. At Cát Mộc Construction, we prioritize foundation work as it bears the load of the entire structure above.
